Manuel Pinon Medina

October 22, 1921 — January 5, 2018

Long time Crowley County resident, Manuel P. Medina, age 96, was called home by our Lord on January 5, 2018 in Ordway, Colorado. Manuel Medina was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on October 22, 1921. He was brought to the United States by his parents when he was 6 years old and lived in New Mexico, Wyoming and Nebraska prior to moving to Crowley County in 1939. He entered the United States Navy in 1943. He served as a Sea Bee and was at the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded a Normandy Medal from the people of France.

Manuel Medina was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dolores Villarreal Medina, to whom he was married for 49 years; his parents, Francisco Arenas Medina, and Maximina Chavez Medina; his brothers, Cipriano (C.P.), Francisco (Frank), Jesus (Jess), Geraldo; and his sisters Antonia Hernandez, Carmen Salinas, Harriet Pena and son-in law Richard G. Trujillo.
Manuel leaves behind one brother Isabel Medina (Johnnie) of Leoti, Kansas and 9 children; Emily Trujillo-Vigil (Julian) of Gallina, NM, Loretta Medina Pineda (Sam) of Albuquerque, NM, Kathy (Joe) Martinez of Ordway, CO, Barbara Medina (Deborah) Blake) of Denver, CO, Andrew (Mary)Medina of Sugar City, CO, Richard (Margaret) Medina of Sugar City, CO, Manuel (Linda) Medina of Ordway, CO, Larry Medina of Ordway, CO, and Leonard Medina of Ordway, CO.

He was blessed with 16 grandchildren; Craig (Sharon) Trujillo, Richard Trujillo, Veronica Vigil, Carlos (Laura) Medina, Bonita Medina, Richard (Leslie) Medina, Mario Medina, Francisco Medina, Mia (Bryan) Bohanan, Joseph (Jessica) Medina, Melissa Medina, (fiancé Fred Carly),Marie Medina, Felicia (Mike) Johnston, Joshua (Vanessa) Martinez, Nico Medina, and Aaron Pineda.

He was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren; Breanna Trujillo, Alyssa Trujillo, Ethan Trujillo, Lucas Trujillo. Elias Trujillo, Cannon Medina, Diego Medina, Saya Medina, Aspen Bohanan, Devin Bell, Tavi Johnston, and Lilliana Johnston.

The Manuel Medina family is grateful for the loving care of Shawna Ace, Marcie Manchego, and the Arkansas Valley Hospice.

Manuel was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. His grandsons will serve as the pall bearers. His amazing spirit and determination were due to his faith in people and in God. Manuel was ready to lend a hand to anyone who asked for his help. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Guadalupe Society.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, January 12, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ordway. Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Building Fund in Ordway, Colorado, 81063 or the Dolores and Manuel Medina Scholarship account at Community Banks in Rocky Ford. Colorado.
