Marcel Martinez

Marcel Martinez, 89, passed away on May 19, 2013 at his La Junta home.  He was born on July 4, 1923 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Antonio & Maria (Archuleta) Martinez. He married Emma Fernandez on July 31, 1943 in Raton, New Mexico; she preceded him in death on January 30, 1998.

Marcel was a foreman for the La Junta Street & Sanitation Department for 43 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his children, Marcel (Gloria) Martinez of North Glenn, CO; Roy (Kathy) Martinez of La Junta; Anthony (Debbie) Martinez of La Junta; Paul Martinez of La Junta; Christine (Henry) Durga of La Junta; Mary (Roger) Sauvian of Iowa; Susie  (Lawrence) Guerrero of Pueblo; Frances Nieto of La Junta; Rose Seawhite of Texas; Betty (Don) Conder of Pueblo; Christopher (Priscilla) Martinez of La Junta; and James (Martha) Martinez of La Junta; brothers, Benny Martinez of La Junta; Felix Martinez of Aurora; 37 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Alice Stephens, brother, Tony Martinez.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m., both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
