Martha O. Jackson

Martha Ola Keen-Jackson, 95, of La Junta and longtime Villagreen resident passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center in La Junta, Colorado. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29th from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, March 30th at 11a.m. at the Kim Baptist Church in Kim, Colorado with Pastor Greg Brown officiating.She was born on April 1, 1913 in Guymon, Oklahoma to John & Ola (Johnson) Keen. Martha married Everett “Babe” Jackson on April 25, 1937.Martha attended High School in Guymon, OK for two years and then graduated from Hardesty Oklahoma. She also attended McPherson College in Kansas where she earned her Associates of Art degree in teaching. After graduation she taught in McPherson County for two years.She and Babe were homesteaders in Sloan Canyon, New Mexico on the Dry Cimarron River. Then they moved to Villigreen, Colorado in 1940 where they raised their three sons while ranching and farming. Martha and Babe were instrumental in the formation and were the first teachers of the Villagreen 4-H club. Martha helped many girls with their sewing and cooking projects. She also was a member of the Villagreen homemakers club. She was a longtime member of the Kim Baptist Church where she was very active in the community, school, and the church functions, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also was the Kindergarten teacher at Kim from 1968 until 1979 when she retired. Martha will be missed by all her family and her many friends in the Kim area and abroad and as a family we can rest assure that our grandmother, mother and wife is at home now and experiencing the wonderful joys of heaven.Martha is survived by her husband, Everett “Babe” Jackson of almost 72 years; sons, Everett (Flo) Jackson, Lonnie (Wilma) Jackson both of Kim; Floyd (Wanda) Jackson of Hixon, British Columbia, Canada; sister, Netti Keen of Ft. Smith, AR; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild, and two on the way; and numerous nieces & nephews also survive She is preceded in death by her parents, John & Ola Keen; infant sister, Betty Keen; sisters, Vi Johnson & Louise Hess; son, John Jackson; grandson, Lon & his wife Darla Jackson.Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
