Mary M. Garcia, 94, of La Junta passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Monday, August 16, 2010.
Mrs. Garcia was born to Tranquilino & Adelida Mascarenas in Socorro, New Mexico on August 22 1915. She married Ramon B. Garcia on December 12, 1932 and they made their home in La Junta where she was a homemaker and he was a car inspector for the Santa Fe. She raised three children in her home on Harriet Avenue and was known for her red chili, tortillas and variety of sweets on hand.
Mary was an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish (St. Theresa Circle 5) and was a member of the Senior Citizen Center.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by her daughter, Nancy Martinez of La Junta; grandchildren, Lorianne (Paul) Bass of Spokane, WA; Steve Zacharopoulos of Boise, ID; John (Andrea) Martinez of Fruitland, IA; and LaVern Martinez of Denver; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Brittany & Zach Bass; Jacob, Sarah, Samantha & Matthew Martinez as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Tranquilino & Adelida Mascarenas; husband, Ramon B. Garcia on August 14, 1982; siblings, Tony, Nick, Felix, Matias, Rose, Annie, Andrea, John, & Seferina; daughter, Rosemary Zacharopoulos; son, Ramon “Sonny” Garcia, Jr.; sons-in-law, John Zacharopoulos & Ralph Martinez; and her best canine friend Pokey.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, August 20, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 19th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
