MaryJo Jacqueline Johnson, 76, of La Junta, passed away peacefully at her home on August 4, 2023. She was born June 6, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to Winfred Carl & Mary Elsa (Seidenstricker) McKelvey.


MaryJo, known as “Jodie” to most, was an exceptional woman who lived a full life. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, most especially their trip to Nashville, Tennessee. She also took much enjoyment in visiting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could almost always count on finding her with a good book and a hot cup of coffee. She was an amazing person who left a lasting impact on anyone she came in contact with. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.


MaryJo is survived by her children, Clifford Lucero of Denver, CO; Terri (Steve) Farrell of La Junta, CO; and Sarah-Jeanne (Charles) Padilla of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Anthony Lucero of Swink, CO; Kenneth Mason of Denver; CO; Katrina of Las Animas, CO; and Abrielle Padilla of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Sessar Lucero, Zacobe Lucero; Octavius Lucero; Ezekiel Lucero, and Davina Butts; siblings, Patricia Bennett of Rocky Ford, CO and Wynne Carvey of Florida; nieces & nephews also survive. MaryJo is preceded in death by her parents, Winfred & Mary McKelvey and nephew, Michael Bennett.


As per MaryJo’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family celebration of life held at a later date.
