Mearl A. Guthrie

Mearl A. Guthrie, 68, passed away April 11, 2009, in Pampa, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Carl Hamilton and Matt Hill officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Guthrie was born on June 30, 1940 in Andrix, Colorado and graduated from Kim High School in Kim, Colorado. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mearl married Frances Patterson on June 9, 1967 in Clayton, New Mexico, and they have lived in the Pampa area since 1978. He worked as an engineering technician for Energas for 27 years, retiring in 1995. After retiring from Energas, he worked for Bob Douthit Wrecker Service until his death. Mearl enjoyed working and tinkering with his car collection. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mearl is survived by his wife, Frances Guthrie of the home; a son, James Guthrie and wife Kelli of Fairplay, CO; a sister, Bertha Bradford of Leadville, CO; a brother, Les Guthrie and wife Mary of Pritchett, CO; a granddaughter, Codi Guthrie of Fairplay, CO and a grandson, Khale Guthrie of Fairplay, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Guthrie, by three brothers, Earl, Ezra, and Raymond, and by his parents, Levi and Eva Guthrie.
