Patricia C. Barber

Patricia Carol Barber, 75, passed away February 25, 2012 at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was born in La Junta on December 12, 1936 to Lane C. and Sarah J. (Thompson) Bowser. She was the sixth of ten children and attended school in Swink and La Junta. She married V. Dwain Barber on February 8, 1952 in Raton, NM and they began their lives together on their ranch in Kim. They later moved to La Junta and Cheraw, returning to La Junta in 2000. She waited tables at the Blue Bird and Cardinal before marrying. Once her children were older, she later waited tables at the Kit Carson and the local sale barns. She started a career with Mountain Bell, which later became AT&T, in 1969. After holding various positions and working in La Junta and Colorado Springs, she retired from AT&T in 1992. She didn’t stay retired for long; she went to work for CenturyTel in 1993 and retired in 2000.Before going to work outside the home, she raised her children and enjoyed attending all of their events.  She was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, attending their various activities and sporting events. She will be greatly missed and always loved by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lane and Sarah Bowser;  daughter, Tammy Barber; sisters, Helen Hobbs, Frankey Schneider, and Clara Belle Bowser;  and brothers, James C. Bowser and Mickey Bowser. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dwain of the family home; her children, Patsy (David) Kerr of Cheraw, Bobbi Sue (Bob) Spurgeon of La Junta, Dwaina (Wayne) Mosher of Amarillo, TX, and Casey (Brenda) Barber of Las Animas; her sisters, Loretta (Bob) Bloxham of CA, Margie Britton of Colorado Springs, and Nancy (Bob) Hancock of NM. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, as well as 20 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Those wishing to do so may make memorial donation to the Arkansas Valley Hospice Association, P.O. Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 or to the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center, Activities Fund, 514 W. 10th Street, La Junta, direct or through the funeral home.Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, March 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ron Skorick of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
