Phyllis Deon Upton, 64, of Las Animas passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, in La Junta. She was born Monday, December 7, 1959, in Seminole, TX to Jesse Lee & Viola Marie (Wales) Upton.

Phyllis grew up in Huntington Beach, CA & liked riding her bike everywhere. She visited Disneyland quite often and enjoyed it very much. She worked for the Rialto Theater in South Pasadena, CA as a movie projectionist during a strike, and eventually became the manager there for 20+ years. The Rialto can be seen in films such as Scream 2 & the Player.

She went to Edison High School in Huntington Beach and attended Orange Coast College majoring in Business Management. Through high school & college, she wanted to become a movie actress. She was a great actor in her local theatrical Theater & was often praised for her acting skills. She also wrote a play for her local theatrical Theater that was well received.

Phyllis was very fond of Humpback whales & wildlife. She had many interests including old soda bottles, rocks and marbles. She liked making people laugh. She loved her husband Brad Bolick dearly, her dogs Mckenna, Arthur & Charlie, and her cat Scarlet that lived to be 18. She disliked having diabetes, being diagnosed at age 18, and the issues that it caused for her throughout her life. She was very loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Brad Bolick of the Las Animas home; brother, Phillip (Diane) Upton of Huntington Beach, California; and sister, Peggy (Martin) Sharp of Fischer, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse & Viola Upton.
