Raymond Martinez

Raymond Martinez, 84, passed away March 13, 2012 at his La Junta home. He was born on January 1, 1928 in Johnstown, Colorado to Francisco & Juanita (Bustamante) Martinez. He married F. Susanna Martinez on June 16, 1982 in La Junta.
Raymond served in the United States Navy and was a member of the VFW. He worked for many years as a cook at the VA Hospital in Ft. Lyon. After he retired from the hospital he went to work for the Colorado Boys Ranch. Raymond was affectionately known as “Papa Ray” or “Papo”, he will be greatly missed.

Raymond is survived by his wife, F. Susanna of the La Junta home; children, Annette Martinez of Las Animas; Mona Lisa Martinez of Las Animas; Juanita Trinidad Manzanares of Albuquerque, NM; Connie Frances Gallegos of Mesa, AZ; Evangeline Jessie (Matt) Archuleta of Pagosa Springs, CO;  John Rocky Martinez of Santa Fe, NM; Lenora Leticia Martinez-Avila of La Junta; Vanessa Raye (Edward) Martinez of La Junta; Manuel Gonzales of Santa Fe, NM; sisters, Alice Yost of Pueblo; Elsie Moreland of Las Animas; Josie Marquez of Michigan; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Raymond Martinez, Jr. and Richard Paul Martinez, daughter, Irene Martinez-Suina, five brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, March 16, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating.
