Richard Leroi Matthews

Richard LeRoi Matthews, 60, of Rocky Ford, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on September 28, 1951, in La Junta to Edward Francis & Edith M. (Peltzer) Matthews. He married Trudy Carol Beck on November 6, 1971 in Rocky Ford.
Richard graduated from Rocky Ford High School Class of 1971. He was the owner of Matthews & Sons Electric.  He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and camping, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and had many friends and he will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Matthews; sons, Lance Matthews, Rudy (Stephanie) Matthews; four grandchildren, Chance, McKayla, Keagyn, and Kylie; mother, Edith Herman; sisters, Pat Martinez and Vera Matthews; brother, David (Barbara) Matthews; three stepbrothers, one stepsister, nine nephews, and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, one nephew, grandmother and grandfather.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Rocky Ford with Pastor John Dell of the First Christian Church in Rocky Ford and Pastor Ed Kite of the Church of God in La Junta officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.
