Sgt. Robert B. “Brian” Cowdrey, 39, of Sanford, NC and formerly of La Junta, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. He was born on May 26, 1972 in La Junta, Colorado to Charles Tilden & Donna (Faull) Cowdrey. He married Kimberly Jill Bollacker.

Brian was an avid hunter when his job in the Army would allow. He loved his job, he always would say “the job is hard but I am proud to be the one who sends the deceased on their first leg on their journey home.” One great passion of his life was being a foster family for German Shepherds. He also could not turn down a good game of Call of Duty with his Xbox 360. He was an amazing man who loved his family; he loved the Lord and loved the ARMY!

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Tilden Cowdrey, and grandparents, Fred & Madge Faull.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at the La Junta High School Gymnasium. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors by the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade Honors Team. Reception will be held at the La Junta Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 701 following the committal service. 

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Brian Cowdrey Children Education Fund, c/o the Colorado Bank & Trust direct or through the funeral home.
