Sharon Rochelle Yates, 68, of Phoenix, AZ and former La Junta resident passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 in Hiese, Idaho. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ron Skorick of First Christian Church officiating. After services family would like for you to join them at the La Junta Elk’s Lodge.
Sharon was born on June 13, 1941 in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma to Warren Clay & Aletta Bell (Bragg) Cowen. She married Ronald Eugene Yates on April 25, 1959 in La Junta, Colorado. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2000.
She attended elementary and graduated from Swink High School. She lived in La Junta for 43 years, 20 years in Colorado Springs, and she had been living in Phoenix, Arizona for the last five years. Sharon ran her own small business and was an appraiser, and was retired from the El Paso County as a county planner. She also was a member of the La Junta Elks Lodge, Does. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Sharon is survived by her three sons, Scott Dale Yates, Tod D. Yates, and Cory Douglas Yates; two grandchildren; half-sister, Cheryl Dial of Penrose, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Clay & Aletta Bell Cowen; husband, Ronald E. Yates on July 28, 2000.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
