Thelma Gene Barnes

November 19, 1924 — March 18, 2021

Thelmagene Lewis Wilson Barnes, 96, passed away on March 18, 2021 at the Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder. She was born in La Junta to Bonum and Genevieve (Fuller) Lewis. She spent her childhood in Higbee, CO, with her mother and brother, Nolan.

They later moved to Swink where Gene graduated from high school in 1942.
She met and married Frederick Wilson in La Junta in 1944 and after the war, they settled in the Midwest.

After losing her husband, Gene moved back to Colorado and settled in Denver in 1973.
In 1990 she married Paul Barnes. They were married thirty years before he passed in 2020.

Thelmagene is survived by her children, Patricia DuCray, Barbara Reed, and Richard Wilson; her adopted daughter and husband, Brenda (Dave) Daniher; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

As she wished, returning to a place in Colorado she loved, Gene was laid to rest in the Higbee Cemetery on March 23, 2021.

She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, and her gift of humor, lovingly given, wherever she was.
