Thomas Dillon, 89, passed away March 23, 2009 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be Friday, March 27th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Chuck Shipman officiating.He was born September 8, 1919 in Ordway, Colorado to Clarence and Bertha (Spragg) Dillon. He married Thelma Brush on October 23, 1943 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2008. Mr. Dillon graduated from La Junta High School and attended Greenville College. He served in the Army Air Corps for four and one-half years, being honorably discharged in November 1945. Following the war he worked for Continental Airlines and CF & I Steel, then went on to farm in the Swink area, and also worked at the sugar factories in Swink and Rocky Ford, and then joined the Post Office as a letter carrier. He retired from the Post Office after 25 years of service in 1985. Mr. Dillon coached youth baseball in Swink and became a Key Man with the Koshare Indian Dancers. He was an avid local high school sports fan, attending in particular as many of the Swink games and matches as his health allowed. He was a wonderful supporter of his wife and his children in all they did, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife Thelma of the La Junta home, his children, Ted (Janet Geist) Dillon of Loveland, Sue (Frank) Swanson of Tacoma, Washington, and Richard (Gail) Dillon of Littleton; grandchildren, Jacinda Swanson (Robert Schwartz), Shane Swanson (Molly Hogan), Bryan Dillon and Andrea Dillon; his two brothers, Donald (Velma) Dillon of Eaton, and Robert (Ruth) Dillon of Nevada, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Chuck) Lucero of La Junta and Charlotte Pettus of Pueblo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, by four brothers, Edward Dillon, Harold (Dorothy) Dillon, Willard (Lavon) Dillon and John (Dorothy) Dillon; his four sisters, Florence Dillon, Doris (John) Poet, Mary Jo (Clayton) Brockhaus, and Jessie Dillon.Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
