Velta Marie Pantier, 91, of La Junta, passed away Oct. 19, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Graveside services will be Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Gail Allen of the Cowboy Church officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Velta was born December 14, 1918, in Missouri. The family moved to La Junta, Colorado in 1921, just in time to watch their house and belongings float down the river during the 1921 flood. She was one of 11 children and now there is just one sister living; Eleanor Jean Nichols residing in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Velta married William H. Clark in 1934 and they had 4 children. William, Butch, Margaret Ann and Sharon. Velta divorced in 1954 and Married Floyd Pantier in 1956.
Velta was widely known for her great cooking and baking. Her kitchen was always open and always had something in the oven or on the stove. No one ever went hungry.
She has resided at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center for the last four years where she has many friends and loved to tell her life stories. Velta suffered with Macular Degeneration and her sight has been failing since 2000. One of her other loves in life was making quilts; she had made over 100 of them and gave them all to friends and family. She also loved to play games of all kinds. Velta is loved by all around her and she has put a definite spot in all hearts of those who came to know her.
Velta is survived by her children, William (Marilyn) Clark of La Junta and Sharon Reed of Guthrie, OK; stepchildren, Barbara Hendrie of La Junta, Arleta Beebe of La Junta and Dale (Tootie) Pantier of Detroit, MI; sister, Eleanor Jean Nichols; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, William N. Clark, second husband, Floyd Pantier, son, Butch Clark, daughter, Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick, stepdaughter, Wanda Holderby.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
