Wilbur Carson Mccloy

August 15, 1922 — December 23, 2014

Wilbur Carson McCloy, 92, passed away on December 23, 2014 at his La Junta home. Carson was born on August 15, 1922 to McLeod & Leslie (Braly) McCloy in Lieb, Texas. He was their third son. Carson and his brothers helped on the family farm in Hutchinson County. His father was one of the very first to plant wheat in that county. Carson graduated Morse high school in 1940. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas for a short time before serving in WWII in 1941 and 1942. On June 19, 1954 married Evelyn Miller, a local school teacher. They moved to the family farm south of Morse, Texas. While living and working there, two children were born to the couple, Clyde and Reba. In the summer of 1960, Carson and Evelyn moved to a ranch in the Higbee Valley south of La Junta, Colorado. Soon after this a third child, Leah, joined the family. Carson & Evelyn made their home there for next 48 years.
 
Carson & Evelyn were very active with their children in 4-H through the 1960s and 1970s. In 2008, they moved to Casa del Sol retirement community in La Junta. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in La Junta and also attended the Cowboy Church in La Junta.
 
Carson is survived by three children, Clyde McCloy and wife Connie of Morse, Texas, Reba Hoskins of La Junta, and Leah Severson and husband Tommy of Flower Mound, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Jimmilee McCloy Jameson and husband Tyler of Amarillo, Texas, Eva, Wil and Conner McCloy of Morse, Texas, Levi Hoskins of Swink, Colorado, Lacie Hoskins Mayhoffer and husband Edward of La Junta, Colorado, Lexie Hoskins Kurtz and husband Cody of Rocky Ford, Colorado,  Woo Chul Han McCloy of South Korea and Carson, Cullen, and Carter Severson of Flower Mound, Texas; two great-granddaughters,  Briley Mayhoffer  of La Junta and Edith Jameson of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Thane McCLoy and wife Sue of Morse, Texas and sister-in-law, Leona Roberts of Stephenville, Texas; along with many nieces and nephews. Carson was a loving, caring friend and father to his family and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sweet loving wife, Evelyn on November 3, 2012; brothers, Wilson and his wife Nan and Willard and his wife Beatrice.
 
In Lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Sangre De Cristo Hospice, Valley Cowboy Church or Operation Christmas Child direct or funeral home. Arrangements in Morse, Texas will be through Henson-Novak Funeral Home out of Guymon, OK.
 
 
 
 
 

Graveside service will be Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lieb Cemetery in Morse, Texas. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in La Junta, Colorado.
