Wilda Jean Carver

March 3, 1931 — August 11, 2019

Wilda J. Carver, 88 of La Junta died peacefully on August 11, 2019 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center in La Junta.

Wilda was born on March 3, 1931 to Willis & Ruby (Houtchens) Bland of Las Animas, one of six children including Agnes, Hazel, Otis, Uldine, and Vern. Wilda attended school in her hometown of Las Animas, but she completed her education in La Junta. She married and later divorced her high school sweetheart. Later, she met and married Richard Carver, son of Robert & Jewell Carver of Las Animas in the 1960’s and Richard lovingly accepted Wilda and Mike as his true family. The family settled on the Carver farm in Las Animas where their son Mike graduated from Las Animas High School. She was a devoted wife and mother and frequently serving in scouts and 4-H.

Wilda had a gift of playing the piano and organ by ear and was often the cornerstone of holiday sing a longs. She especially enjoyed gospel music, not only playing, but also singing and listening to her favorite hymns. She was active and a dedicated member of the Nazarene church until she became homebound. Her membership spanned her entire lifetime.

She is survived by her only son, Michael S. Murray of La Junta; brother, Vern (Judy) Bland of Turlock, CA; niece, Jan (Bob) Blair of La Junta; nephew, David (Kathi) Blevens of La Junta; niece, Trish (Rob) Wittner of Buckley, WA; great-niece, Kelly (Gary) Addington of La Junta; and numerous other great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Mark Callister officiating. Interment will follow at the Bent County Cemetery in Las Animas.

The family would like to thank the care givers and staff of the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center for their kindness, care, and dedication to Wilda while she resided there.
