Charles “Smitty” Smith, 84, of Pueblo, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019. Charles was born on August 3, 1934 to Izola and Raymond Smith in La Junta. He married Jean Titus on September 13, 1954 in La Junta.
Charles grew up in La Junta and spent most of his life there. He worked for the La Junta Tribune-Democrat newspaper for over 50 years retiring in 1998. After retirement Jean and Charles spent their winters in Parker Dam, CA. and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. They also spent many summers in La Veta, CO. Throughout their snowbird travels they met many wonderful people and developed many long lasting friendships. Charles enjoyed many sporting events, was a Denver Bronco fan, an avid reader and enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Pueblo; daughters, Deborah (Jake) Ehrlich of Milliken, CO and Michelle (Randy) Weaver of La Junta, CO; grandchildren, Aubrey (Eric) Elms, Erin Warren (Leighton), Tawnie (Chris) Lloyd, Tiffany (Logan) Greenfield and Tabor (Cayleen) Weaver, six great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine McAllister; brothers-in-law, Bob Titman, Sam (Marie) Christopher, and David (Kathy) Christopher; sister-in-law, Marsha Smith and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Titman, nephew, Steven Brock and niece, Mindy Christopher.
As per Smitty’s request cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of his Life will be planned for a later date.
