Clara P. (Henderson) Frye, 94, passed away on April 23, 2025 after a lengthy illness at her home in La Junta. She was born April 23, 1931 in Springfield, Colorado to Madison O. and Augusta V. (Mansfield) White. Where she attended school and was active in several clubs, graduating Valedictorian in 1949.
Shortly thereafter she met Earl G. Henderson. They dated for some time and in 1951 they eloped to Raton, New Mexico. They lived in Lamar, Colorado, Garden City, Kansas, Denver, Colorado and then settled in La Junta, Colorado where he was in floor covering sales/installation and she was a home maker for their boys, Jerry and Randy.
Clara was active in the PTA during the years the boys were attending Columbian Grade School holding several positions. She was also active with the Colorado American Baptist Women's Mission group serving as President several times. She was also active in several groups at the Baptist Church including Choir Director for many years. During this time, she sang at numerous funerals where she met Bill Frye, the Funeral Director. She also became an Avon Representative where she sold Avon in the North La Junta area. After several years she was asked to be a District Manager for Avon which she did in Great Bend, Kansas, Greely, Colorado and La Junta, Colorado, until she retired in 1989.
After a long illness Earl passed at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta on July 18, 2000. They were married for 49 years. Clara sold her house on Lazy Acres Road and moved to Casa Del Sol where she lived for 12 years. This is where she became re-acquainted with a "new neighbor", the recently widowed Bill Frye. They hit it off and were married on January 28, 2012. They moved from there to a home they remodeled in La Junta. They enjoyed the company of each other and many friends and family company for 7 years until Bills passing.
Clara lived in the home until her health required more care than the family could provide. She moved to Evergreen Gardens for two years where she made friends and enjoyed herself until a fall required her to move to Bent County Nursing Facility. She was there until she and the family decided to take her back home. Clara enjoyed being home and had friends and family visit often. She passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of her 94th. birthday.
Clara is preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Henderson, her parents, Madison and Augusta White, parents-in-law Wade and lone Henderson, brother, Neal White, sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Robert Litke, sister and brother in-law Cletus and Matthew White, daughter-in-law Mary "Sisi' Henderson, nephew, Robert E. Litke, nephew, Matthew O. White, niece, Shirley White and great grandson, Michael Baumgartner.
Clara is survived by sons, Jerry (Debbie) Henderson, Randy Henderson, step-children, Jinnie (Frank) Malouff, Janell Cranson, Millie (Gail) Allen, Cindi (Ron) White, Brad (Angela) Frye, and oh so too many to list grand, great grand and great, great grandchildren.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Friday July 18, 2025 at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta at 2:00 P.M. with Gail Allen officiating. A social gathering will follow at the Cowboy Church north of La Junta following gravesite service.
