David Sacchetta was born on September 27, 1950, in Durango, Colorado, to Henry Francis Sacchetta & Reatha (Cundiff) Sacchetta. He spent the first ten years of his life in Durango alongside his parents and two older sisters, Lila and Judy, before the family relocated to Colorado Springs. There, David attended public schools and graduated from Harrison High School on June 2, 1969.
After high school, David met the love of his life, Joyce Doak, in Pueblo. The two were married on July 25, 1971, beginning a lifelong partnership built on mutual love, laughter, and devotion. In August 1975, they welcomed their son, Eric Michael Sacchetta.
David and Joyce lived in Colorado Springs, where he worked for Rio Grande Transportation and Graves Trucking, before moving to Olney Springs in 1981 to operate a dairy farm. David dedicated himself to the farm until 1997 and served his community during that time with the Olney Springs Fire Department and the Crowley County Ambulance Service as both a driver and EMT. Later, David worked at the Crowley County Correctional Facility, where he managed the greenhouse and woodshop—roles that reflected his love for hands-on work and nurturing growth in both plants and people. He retired in 2015.
David was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, & friend. Known for his dry wit, sharp sense of humor, and infectious laugh, he brought joy and levity to those around him. If you were loved by David, you were lovingly teased by him too—his humor was one of the many ways he connected with others.
An outdoorsman at heart, David found peace and fulfillment in camping, fishing, hunting, and league bowling. His passion for nature was sparked early on through treasured hunting and fishing trips with his father and uncles. In retirement, he and Joyce enjoyed several cruises with family, but none more meaningful than their journey to Italy, where David was able to explore his Italian heritage.
David is survived by his wife, Joyce Sacchetta of Olney Springs; sisters Lila Pohlenz of Colorado Springs; & Judy Rowland of Summerville, SC; sisters-in-law, Sandy Flynn of Dunnellon, FL; Pam Cadwallder of Twentynine Palms, CA; & Lynette (Wayde) Foster of Cheraw, CO; brother-in-law, Keith (Patty) Doak of Fowler, CO; & numerous beloved nieces, nephews, & cousins. He is preceded in death by his son, Eric Sacchetta; his parents, Henry & Reatha Sacchetta; and his in-laws, George & Grace Doak.
