Donald Wayne Lewis

Donald Wayne Lewis, of Rocky Ford, Colorado, passed away on July 23, 2026, at the age of 71.Donald was born on August 30, 1954, in Pueblo, Colorado, to August R. Lewis and Virginia D. (Schaffer) Lewis.

Don graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colorado. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he devoted his career to protecting both people and natural resources, serving with the Colorado State Patrol, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Otero County Sheriff’s Department. Throughout his life, Don exemplified integrity, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

A passionate outdoorsman, Don found great joy in hunting, fishing, and wildlife conservation. He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. He was also a dedicated Hunter Education Instructor, where he taught generations of new hunters the importance of safety, ethics, and respect for the outdoors. In addition, Don served as a Taekwon-do instructor, sharing not only his knowledge and discipline but also his patience, encouragement, and passion for helping others grow.

Above all, Don was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michele “Mickey” Krumanocker Lewis of Rocky Ford, Colorado; his sons, Shane (Cheryl) Lewis of Brush, Colorado, and Nick (Stacy) Lewis of Rocky Ford, Colorado; and his six cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Wesley, Jace, Ryder, Anelise, and Jaxon. His grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and brought him immeasurable joy. Don is preceded in death by his grandparents & parents.

Don will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his distinguished career in public service, his love of the outdoors, and the countless lives he touched through teaching, mentoring, and leading by example. Whether serving his country, protecting his community, or spending time with those he loved, Don lived a life marked by honor, humility, and generosity. His legacy will endure in the values he instilled, the people he inspired, and the family who will forever cherish his memory.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
