Listen to Obituary

Donald Lee Moore, 80, of La Junta, Colorado passed away on September 15, 2026, at his La Junta home. He was born on October 25, 1945, in La Junta, Colorado to Ralph & Frances (Daniher) Moore.

Don grew up in La Junta and went on to attend Colorado State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Science.

After college, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in Viet Nam. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Campaign Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Don’s service to his country was something he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.

After serving in the Marines, Don worked for Bob Norris at T-Cross Ranch for many years and then went on to manage Latigo Equestrian Center in Black Forest, Colorado. That is where he met his partner in life (and crime), Carol Hammond. In 1982, Don and Carol moved back to Don’s childhood home in La Junta, John and Beth in tow. This is where Moore & Co. was created, leading to a lifetime commitment of excellence in horse show management.

Don leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, service, ingenuity and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but especially by the family he helped build and the people whose lives he made stronger simply by knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories he told, the lessons he taught, the things he built and repaired and most of all the friends and family who loved and admired him.

Don is survived by his children; John (Erica) Vincent of Prosper, Texas & Elizabeth (John) Stevenson of Geneva, Illinois and grandchildren; Alex Vincent, Landon Vincent, Annabel Stevenson & Ally Stevenson. Don is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Carol (Hammond) Moore; parents, Ralph & Frances Moore and his brother, Richard Jay Moore.

Don’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Norris Penrose Events Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80905. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Ft.
