Dr. Bill Eugene Peters, 87, of Tucson, AZ, passed peacefully on December 23, 2021.
Bill was born May 27, 1934, in Manzanola, CO, the son of Pete and Esther Peters. He was an All-American athlete at Manzanola High School and was recruited to play football at Colorado A&M where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Bill was a guidance counselor and the first wrestling and football coach at Broomfield High School. He received his doctorate at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. and then moved his family to Alamosa where he held the positions of Dean of Men, Dean of Student Affairs, and then Professor of Psychology and Statistics at Adams State College. Bill left education to go into restaurant ownership and then retired to Tucson AZ.
Bill Peters loved life. He loved his family, and he loved his friends. He lit up rooms with his booming voice and laughter. Most important, Bill loved the Lord his savior.
Bill was a devoted family man who enjoyed road trips, camping, and skiing with his family and loved traveling abroad. He was a people person who never knew a stranger. He was well respected as a counselor, educator, and colleague, influencing so many who knew him.
Bill is survived by his companion of 21 years, Suzie Eldridge of Tucson, AZ, his 3 children, Jerri Woodard of Chadron, NE, David Peters of Superior, CO, Cami Howlett of Fort Collins, CO, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, the mother of his children, Florence Peters of Aurora, CO, and his siblings, Ronald Peters of Ordway, CO and Arlene (Peters) Rodeen of Sioux City, IA.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 14, 2022, at the Ordway First United Methodist Church. There will be a private graveside service at the Valley View Cemetery in Ordway, CO prior to the ceremony.
