Edward "Mac" Lee Garlington, Jr. of La Junta peacefully passed away on June 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Denver at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital on November 24, 1944, to Edward and Shirley Garlington.
Ed was raised in La Junta and upon graduating from La Junta High School in 1962 he attended Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado on a full ride scholarship where he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Shortly after, he moved to Manhattan Beach California and worked for Shell Oil Company for several years before relocating to Boulder Colorado to attend CU Law School. After completing law school in 1972 he returned to his hometown to hang out his shingle and for the next fifty years practiced family law. He retired in December 2021.
Ed was active in many service organizations and belonged to several clubs throughout his lifetime; Boy Scouts, Koshares, Rotary Club, Mavericks, OJC Dance Band, Chamber of Commerce, La Junta Golf Club, and Sports Car Club. He was an avid golfer. The love of golf was passed down to him by his parents which he in turn passed down to his children.
Ed was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and fiercely loyal brother and friend. He leaves a beautiful legacy, having valiantly endured many challenges with great courage over the last few years.
Ed is survived by his wife, Melody, of forty-three years; his four children Kelly (Ken) Quimby, Brian Garlington, Christine (Kota) Givan & Ashley Parker; his brother, Robert (Sue) Garlington; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Erin & Corby Malott, Madison, Allison & Cody Garlington, Remington & Khaleesi Parker; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews also survive.
Ed was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward & Shirley Garlington; grandparents and brother Donald Garlington.
