Eloy “Poncho” Salazar, 69, of Swink, Colorado passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, in La Junta, Colorado. He was born August 25, 1956, in La Junta to Alfred, Sr. & Bertha (Urioste) Salazar.
Eloy was a pillar of the Swink Community, he enjoyed working on his yard, coaching various sports, hosting 4th of July barbecues. Eloy had a vast collection of Hot Wheel memorabilia, sports memorabilia, and a passion for classic cars which included his very own 1974 El Camino. Eloy was known as a Swink sports icon he and his wife June enjoyed attending different sports events supporting their beloved Swink Lions. Eloy loved his family and his grandkids and friends and his furry buddy Willie. Eloy was known as a jokester, and loved making people laugh with his ornery sense of humor.
Eloy is survived by his wife, June Salazar of the Swink home; children, Michael (Kandi) Moore of Fountain, CO, & Veronica Salazar of Swink, CO; grandchildren, Michael Moore, Jr., Gabrielle Moore, Rico Carale, Carlos Carale, Louise Carale, Marcus Berg, Jaxon Draper, Maddox Draper, and grand-dog, Willie; family, Joe (Stelle) Carale; Shad (Kristen) Draper; siblings, Anthony Salazar, Alice Martinez, Oclires (Rick) Lovato, Pat (Eugene) Eddy, Loretta Sandoval, Diana Salazar, Tommy (Vicki) Salazar, Joann Madrid, Brian (Ann Marie) Salazar, Jimmy Salazar, & Danny (Janet) Salazar; numerous nieces & nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents & his brother, Alfred Salazar, Jr; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, & nephew, Dennis Smith, II.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 1, 2026, at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the old Swink High School Gymnasium with Joe Carale officiating.
