Esperanza Carrillo, 91, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Esperanza was born in Garden City, Kansas, on March 16, 1917 to Severiano & Carolina (Lucero) Magana. She attended La Junta schools. She was married at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on January 28, 1933 to Trinidad Carrillo; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1986. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Church. Esperanza enjoyed garden and yard work, supporting numerous faith-based & health-related charities, and especially enjoyed spending time with her 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great, great-grandchildren..
Esperanza is survived by her daughters, Cecilia Miera of La Junta, Margaret Carrillo of La Junta, and Florence (Chris) Flores of Rocky Ford; sons, Gilbert (Lupe) Carrillo, Andrew (Cordy) Carrillo and Richard Carrillo La Junta; and her sister, Hortensia Carrillo all of La Junta. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Severiano and Carolina Magana, husband, Trinidad Carrillo, sister, Hastolia Magana, brother, Louis Magana, half-brother, Julio Fernandez, and grandson, Mark Miera.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
