Fortino Lopez

Fortino Lopez, 76, of La Junta, passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 18, 2026, at the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born in Durango, Mexico to Maria (Vasquez) & Guerreros Lopez Sierra.

Fortino was born on April 6th, 1950, in Durango Mexico, he was married to Juliana Lopez for 53 years. Their journey together began in Juarez, Mexico then they came to Colorado. They settled in La Junta, Colorado with their 4 children. Fortino believed in hard work; he worked hard his whole life to provide for his whole family. Through his dedication, he taught his children to have a great work ethic, family values, and to be strong when life got tough.

He was a devoted catholic, he loved his family and loved to help others. He enjoyed family gatherings where he was the life of the party. He liked to joke and dance and on Sundays he loved to drive his truck around, Fortino will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Fortino is survived by his wife, Juliana Lopez; children, Mario Lopez, Sergio (Josie) Lopez and Sandra (Aaron Torres) Lopez; grandchildren, Jonathon Torres, Gavin (Trevor) Lopez – McKinnon, Angelica (Jared) Burroughs, Miguel Colon, Shari Colon, Tomas Palacio, Donaven Palacio, Mike Palacio and Niko Flores; great-grandchildren, Declan Beau Burroughs and Peyton Skye Burrough; siblings, Enrique (Lupe) Lopez, Irma (Carlos) Lopez, Guadalupe (Javier) Lopez; Rosa Hermosillo; Augustine (Elaine) Lopez, Maria Delores Hermosillo, Jorge (Sonya) Lopez; sister-in-law, Cordilia Lopez and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Fortino is preceded in death by his parents, Guerreros & Maria Lopez Sierra; daughter, Sylvia Lopez; siblings, Ramon Lopez and Jose “Lelo” G. Lopez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta following the Mass.
