Francis L. Roberson, 84, of La Junta passed away on October 13, 2018 at the Colorado Acute Care Hospital in Denver. He was born on October 27, 1933 to Herbert Eugene & Verna Jane (Wray) Roberson in Adrien, Missouri. He married Betty Steir on November 27, 1957 in Raton, N.M.; she preceded him in death on October 13, 1996.
Francis served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years serving on the USS Watts (DD567) and the USS DeHaven (DD727) during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the City of La Junta and served on the City Council for seven years, while he got his Salvage Yard business going. He ran Roberson Wrecking up until 15 years ago.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Allen) Jones of La Junta; son, Bobby Lee (Gwen) Roberson of Greeley, CO; brother, Robert Roberson of La Junta; sister, Joyce Roberson of Missouri; grandchildren, Chantz (Tara) Jones of La Junta, Allen L. (Kim) Jones of Nebraska, Lana Kay (Joseph) Andrade of Colorado Springs, Brian Jones of La Junta, Dale Jones of Alamosa, Greg Jones of Texas, Cole (Jen) Roberson and Lyndee Roberson Feitshans; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Kathy Jones on Nov. 5, 2004; granddaughter, Shanelle Jones on March 18, 2013; son-in-law, Frank Jones on March 22, 2009; sister, Eva Jane McFatridge; three brothers, Herbert, Clarence, and Roy Roberson; and his close friend, Elaine Bolling on June 10, 2014.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Lyon National Cemetery at noon with Military Honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
