John Niels Hansen Sr., a beloved member of the community, known for his warm spirit and multifaceted contributions to his community, passed away on April 30, 2025, in Pearcy, Arkansas. Born on May 6, 1939, in La Junta, Colorado, John lived a life rich in experience, creativity, and love for his family.
Throughout his career, John was a dedicated machinist and eventually owned and operated a fish store for many years, where his passion for freshwater tropical fish flourished. His impressive collection of aquariums, boasting 13,000 gallons of water, was a testament to his commitment and enthusiasm for the hobby. Additionally, John enjoyed the artistic pursuits of painting model planes, tending to his garden in the greenhouse, and canning his bountiful harvest. His adventurous spirit led him to hunt elk in the majestic Colorado mountains alongside friends and family.
John leaves behind a legacy of love anchored by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol Hansen; their children, John (Marci) Hansen Jr., Charles (Londa) Hansen, and James (Teresa) Hansen; and his grandchildren, Clinton (Kambra) Hansen, Kortney Wages, Kelsey (Omiel) Burke, Charlie (Melissa) Hansen, William Hansen, and Quincy (Madison) Hansen. John is also survived by his brother, Don Hansen, as well as eight great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. John is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Hansen and Doris Hansen, as well as his sisters, Margaret (Dallas) Shultz and Betty Hanson.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Inurnment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
