Laurie Gail Yergert Guthals was born August 4, 1960, to Clarence and Jane (Henkensiefken) Yergert in La Junta, Colorado. She was born on her Dad’s 26th birthday. She was the oldest of their three children. Laurie passed unexpectedly in late February 2026.
Laurie grew up on farms on Bent’s Fort Road and attended Fort Bent School through 5th grade. From there she attended La Junta Jr. High and La Junta High School, graduating in 1978. She was an accomplished pianist and was the accompanist for the first Children’s Theatre Production in La Junta led by Jeff Church, Alice in Wonderland.
Laurie spent many years in the workforce, primarily in Denver law firms, including Faegre & Benson and Perkins Coie. At Perkins Coie, Laurie’s managing partner, noted she was a well-respected business director and highly valued member of their firm. Her tenure with Perkins Coie dated back to the opening of the Denver office, almost 25 years ago. She was valued for her immense well of experience and a tireless dedication to her work. Laurie had many passions including art, music and a love for animals. Over the years, she volunteered at many events that supported the Denver Dumb Friends League. Her pets were all rescue animals, and her last pet was a cat named Cooper.
Laurie is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Jane Yergert. She is survived by her siblings, Mitchell (Debbie) Yergert of Arvada and Carol (Greg) Noll of La Junta. Her nephews and nieces include David (Katie) Yergert and their daughter Skylar, Jacob (Kjirsten) Yergert and their daughter Diana Jane, Daniel (Grace) Yergert, Sara Jane (Chance) Oquist and Emily Noll.
A memorial service will be held at a later time. Donations can be directed to Humane Colorado (formerly the Denver Dumb Friends League) at humanecolorado.org in memory of Laurie.
