Lela Jean Schauer, 88, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on May 6, 2025, in Monument, CO. She was born on October 30, 1936, in Rocky Ford, CO to Byron Eugene and Eary Lea (Wheeler) Davis. She attended schools in Rocky Ford and Las Animas before graduating from Las Animas High School in 1954. As a child, Lela grew up working on the family farm along with numerous jobs in Las Animas. After graduation, Lela attended Pueblo Community College and worked at Jess Hunter Ford in Pueblo. After graduation she returned to the Arkansas Valley.

Lela met her future husband of fifty-five years, Donald Schauer in Fort Collins, CO. Lela settled in La Junta, where she worked for the City of La Junta from 1956 to 1968. Lela and Donald were married on December 19, 1959, in Las Animas. In November 1968, Lela and Donald started Schauer Construction Company, Inc. and was active in the business until 2015. They had moved to Grand Junction in 1982 and then settled in Colorado Springs in 1985.

Lela is survived by sons, Vincent and Stacey (Petramala) Schauer, and Robert Schauer and Betsy Thinger; grandchildren, Whitney Schauer, Kendall Schauer, Grant Schauer and Jessica (Brad) Heiden; great-grandchildren, Macie, Jaxson, and Brooks Heiden; brother-in-law, James Schauer of Canon City, CO, and sister-in-law Roxanne Davis of Las Animas, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ralph Schauer, parents, Byron Eugene and Eary Lea Davis, in-laws, Ralph Vincent and Angeline Ann Schauer, brother, Lonnie Davis, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with interment to follow at the Bent County / Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado. There will be a reception prior to the Mass at 12:00 p.m. (noon), at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall.
