Martha Simonton Bradfield, 100, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2018 at her La Junta home. She was born on July 30, 1917 in La Junta to John Holmes and Adell (Bush) Simonton. She married Floyd Ivan Bradfield March 24, 1937 in La Junta; he preceded her in death on June 24, 1984.
Martha was a homemaker for many years, busy raising five children. Later, she worked at Otero Junior College in the cafeteria as a baker. She was a great cook and was known for her delicious pastries, candies, cookies and pies. She was also an Avon lady for many years, saving money earned to buy Christmas and birthday gifts for family and friends. Martha served on the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center Auxiliary pushing the snack cart. She participated in the Home Demonstration Club specializing in textile painting. She also supported her children with numerous 4-H projects.
Martha was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She loved animals, birds and flowers. She enjoyed her family and was especially fond of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who brought her much joy. Martha will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by five generations of family including her daughter Donna Bradfield Schlepphorst of Carrollton, Texas; son Jerald (Meredith) Bradfield of La Junta; grandchildren Rick (Andrea) Schlepphorst, Mary Alice Schlepphorst, Brianne (David) Mac Runnel, Jenna (Joel) Reeves, Jan Gamet, Ginger (Bob) Jones, Julie (Bill) Pratt, Brett (Regina) Bradfield, Amy (Kenny) Van Horn, Mike (Jessica) Bradfield, Kimberly (Derral) Noble, Jason (Shandy) Kibler; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Bradfield, sons Mick Bradfield, Robert Bradfield, Scott Bradfield and sisters Iliff Pringle, Ruth Miller, Grace Henson, Lois Lloyd, and brother James Simonton.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Evergreen Gardens for the wonderful loving care shown to Martha throughout the last five years. We also express our thanks to Arkansas Valley Hospice staff for the care and compassion shown to Martha over the last month.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta with Mark Fisher of Arkansas Valley Hospice officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Gardens or Arkansas Valley Hospice through the funeral home.
