Mary L. Hurtado, 98, of La Junta passed away on October 16, 2018 at the Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway. She was born on March 17, 1920 in El Paso, Texas to Simone & Maclovia (Contreras) Nativadad. She married Alfonso Joe Hurtado on July 24, 1938 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ordway, Colorado; he preceded her in death on May 18, 2008.
She spent most of her years as a homemaker and also worked at Western Foods, from which she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary was a great cook and baker, loved crafts, needle point, sewing, crocheting, making Halloween costumes and making a variety of blankets.
She is survived by her children, Virginia Martinez of La Junta; Betty (Jim) Gonzales of Commerce City; Pat Mascarenas of Pueblo West; Judy (Nash) Aguilar of La Junta; Leroy (Yolanda) Hurtado of Denver; also survived by numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Ernie, George, and Baby Joe and her siblings.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta with Father Henry Wertin of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish officiating. Visitation will be held prior to service from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO 81050 or through the funeral home.
