Peter Danko, Sr., 90, of La Junta, passed away October 18, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Pete was born on June 28, 1933 in New Jersey to George & Anna (Cherefka) Danko.
Pete was a lifetime member of the La Junta Elks Lodge #701 where he for many years was Santa Clause at the annual Christmas party. He was a volunteer judge at the La Junta Kids Rodeo for many years and enjoyed elk hunting. Pete will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, May Elizabeth Danko; his children, Peter (Debbie) Danko, Jr, Karen (Terry) Menges, Sr, Gayle (Kenneth) Eveatt, and Joe Danko; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren; He is also leaving behind numerous furry friends. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and a sister, his first wife, Dorothy “Sissy” Vogt-Danko, two step-sons, George & Jack Fazekas, and his daughter-in-law, Jane Danko.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Gail Allen of The Cowboy Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice or to a charity of choice.
