Ruby Helen Baca-Sandoval went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on May 28, 1946, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, to Fred and Frances Baca. Ruby was the second oldest of fourteen children. She grew up in a large, loving family, and her mother often said she would welcome as many children as the Lord gave her.
Ruby was a beautiful woman inside and out—cream of crop, classy, elegant, and kind-hearted. She formed many friendships and worked numerous jobs throughout her life, from working as a bilingual bicultural teacher and more. In every position, she showed compassion, patience, and a genuine love for people. When she went dancing, she dressed beautifully and lit up the dance floor with her grace and rhythm.
A gifted cook, Ruby shared her love through homemade bread, tortillas, chili, delicious Mexican dishes, and her unforgettable pies. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and generosity for all.
Family was the center of Ruby’s life. She dedicated herself to her three sons, adored and cherished her grandchildren deeply. Ruby married Jose “Phil” Sandoval February 27, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Denver. She spent many years in Denver building a life full of memories, friendship, and love.
Ruby had a deep appreciation for antique furniture and often joked that she must have lived in another era because of how much she loved old, timeless pieces. She loved spending time with her sons, from antique shopping with her son Salvador to dancing away with her son Victor.
Later in life, Ruby wished to return to her hometown of Rocky Ford. Her oldest son Felix lovingly brought her back so she could once again be home.
Ruby will be remembered as a strong, loving, and generous woman—a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her beautiful spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.
Ruby is survived by her sons, Felix (Debra) Sandoval of Rocky Ford, CO; Victor Sandoval of Denver, CO; Salvador Sandoval of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Francine (Mary), Joshua, Jessica; Destiny (Dennis), Santiago, Erica, Briana (Scott), Skylar, & Summer; great-grandchildren, Eric; Aliana, Sofia, Joshua, Jr., Evangelina, Zachariah, Noah, Anthony, Lenora, Aaliyah, & Christian; siblings, Pauline (Lawrence), Billy (Jessica), Fred (Cathy), Emma, Lillian, Danny (Alma), Henry (Delinda), & Patrick (Ida); numerous nieces & nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Frances Baca; husband, Phillip Sandoval; siblings, Molly, Harold, Jr., Santiago “Jimmy”, Richard, & Steven.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. followed by Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. both services at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado with Father Joseph Matitu officiating.
