Shirley Mae Sterling

Shirley M. Sterling, 89, of Las Animas, Colorado, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the Bent County Nursing Home. She was born on April 4, 1936, in Jackson County, Minnesota to Marion and Matilda (Rosenbrook) Allen.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susann Sterling of Las Animas, Colorado; daughter -in-law, Bertha Sterling of Carlsbad, California; grandchildren, Kimberly (Ben) Martinez of Oceanside, California, Angella Sterling of Vista, California, and Rodney James Sterling, Jr. of Brookyln, New York; Great- grandchildren, Isabella, Josiah, Nathan and Claire; nephew, David Sterling along with numerous nieces & nephews; brothers, Keith E. Allen of Grants Pass, Oregon and Virgil D. Allen of Coos Bay, Oregon.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie E. Sterling; son, Rodney Dale Sterling, Sr. and her parents, Marion and Matilda Allen; 4 siblings, Evelyn "Mavis" Nichols, Verla M. Shaffer, Ruby E. Barbee and Joyce A. Lewis; and 6 half siblings, Kenneth M. Allen, Verlin L. Allen, Peggie I. Chritchfield, Jean C. Springer, Dean W. Heuer and Lyle C. Heuer.

Graveside service will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta with Pastor Ted Williams of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of La Junta officiating.
