Stephen Mark Edwards, known affectionately as Steve, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on August 18, 1949, to Maurice Hampton Edwards and Lila Lee Bean.
Steve graduated from La Junta High School in La Junta, Colorado, in 1967, where he distinguished himself as a gifted and dedicated athlete. He excelled in baseball, basketball, and track, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him both on and off the field. Steve loved music and was a gifted musician.
Steve was a kind and caring person who valued his family and friendships deeply. He was a great brother and a loyal friend to many. Before returning to La Junta, Steve lived in Boulder, Colorado, for many years. He later worked at La Junta Trading, where he spent many years as part of the local community.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Hampton Edwards and Lila Lee Bean, and his brother, John Hampton Edwards.
He is survived by his brother, Matthew Edwards of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Deb Edwards of Chico, California; and nephews, Garret Edwards, Jason Edwards, and Sean Edwards.
One of Steve's favorite sayings was, “Rise Above It.” Those words capture much of the spirit with which he lived his life—kind, strong, and always looking beyond life's challenges.
Steve will be remembered for his gentle nature, athletic talent, friendship, and the love he shared with those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Steve is now at peace. God bless Stephen Mark Edwards.
