Veryl Deane Fagan, 90, passed away on September 1, 2019 at his Rocky Ford home. He was born on June 13, 1929 to Harold & Avis (Kready) Fagan in Abilene, Kansas. He married Sally R. Pennington on January 22, 1954 in Ordway, Colorado; she preceded him in death on December 2, 2009.
He graduated from Quenemo Kansas High School; he then attended Kansas State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1948, honorably discharged in 1952, where he served during the Korean War. He moved to La Junta in 1953 as a telegrapher with the Santa Fe Railroad. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service where he retired in 1985. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Geri) Fagan of Gypsum, CO; daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Lambert of La Junta and Judy (Denton) Smith of Widefield, CO; sister-in-law, Martha Pennington of Pueblo; nine grandchildren, Kyle (Cyndy Snyder) Fagan of Mesa, AZ; Kimberly (Daniel Gonzalez) Fagan of Rifle, CO; Jason (Renee) Fagan of Pueblo West, CO; Stephanie Jimenez of Peoria, AZ; Damion (Carin) McElroy of La Junta; Nikki (Anthony) Turner of Swink; Adam (Beverly) McElroy of Rocky Ford; Dustin Olmstead of Pueblo; Brandon (Haley Carter) Olmstead of Colorado Springs; 12 great-grandchildren, Elijah and Myla Gonzalez, Joanna Fagan, Lucas Fagan, Cayleen (Tabor) Weaver, Sydney and David McElroy, Mackenzie, Morgann and Miles Turner, Abby and Riley McElroy; one great, great-grandchild, Tinley Weaver; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and great-granddaughter, Alyssa McElroy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Gary Addington, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
