Virgil James Lindsay, 85, of La Junta went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2025. Virgil was born April 10, 1940 in Las Animas, CO to Gennie and Lester Lindsay. Virgil moved to Rocky Ford at the age of five, living south of town until his graduation from Rocky Ford High School in 1958. He married Claudette (Hamilton) in June 1960, two weeks after Claudette graduated high school.
Virgil started as a ready-mix driver for Valley Concrete in 1960. After working in various roles with VALCO he, his brother Stan, and two others started HLM Construction. Virgil and Stan went on to own various businesses including VSL Construction and Rocky Ford Napa Auto Parts store. In his later years, Virgil drove the bus for the La Junta Senior Center.
Virgil’s passion was his family and friends, spending time on the golf course, riding his motorcycle, camping, fishing and spending time with his puppy. He was an active member of the Valley Community Church.
Virgil is preceded in death by his wife, Claudette and his parents. He is survived by his children, Chuck (Sherry) Lindsay of Monument, CO, their children Kyle (Sarah) Lindsay and Matt (Katherine) Lindsay; Greg (Beth) Lindsay of Evergreen, CO, their children Kristen (Rex) Manchester, Brad (Shea) Lindsay and Ben (Natalie) Lindsay; Cathy (Chris) Theis of Aurora, CO, her children Emilie (Cody) Martinez and Daniel Myers; seven great-grandchildren; and his sibling, Stan (Dorothy) Lindsay of Swink, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Virgil’s name can be made to La Junta Senior Center, 102 E Second St.; La Junta, CO 81050, direct or through the funeral home.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Celebration of life will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Community Church, 27435 County Road 22.75, Rocky Ford, CO, with Kenny Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Ford Cemetery.
