William David Betancur, 67, of La Junta passed away on December 9, 2020 at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. He was born on January 6, 1953 in La Junta to Cruz, Sr. & Mary (Lucero) Betancur.
William grew up in La Junta; where he worked for Cornelius and the Otero Junior College. He was a Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, a member of the Koshare’s. He enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and wrestling. He enjoyed playing the drums as well.
He is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Anthony) Vargus of Las Animas; son, Jesse (Kim) Tapia of Rocky Ford; grandchildren & great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruben (Margaret) Betancur of Denver; Cruz (Velma) Betancur of La Junta; Esther Griego of Napa, CA; Kenneth R. Betancur of Cheraw; Patricia (Sam) Tafoya of Littleton, CO and Amelia Betancur of La Junta; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Mary Lou Betancur; sisters, Rose Marie, Linda Sue and Judith Ann Betancur; brothers, Kenneth Betancur and Robert Lucero.
A graveside committal will be Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
